Hiring an Assistant Rector
Job Title: Assistant Rector (Full-Time)
Location: Cathedral Church of the Ascension, Charles Town, West Virginia
Diocese: Diocese of All Saints, Anglican Church in North America (ACNA)
The Cathedral Church of the Ascension, the cathedral parish of the Diocese of All Saints, seeks a full-time Assistant Rector with a primary focus on pastoral care, parish development, and Christian Education. Working closely with the Rector, the Assistant Rector will play a key leadership role in the spiritual and operational life of this vibrant, growing cathedral community.
The Diocese of All Saints is a member of Forward in Faith North America (FiFNA) and part of the Global Anglican Communion (GAFCON) with a mission partnership with the Anglican Province of Egypt.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Serve as the primary staff liaison for day-to-day parish ministry under the supervision of the Rector.
• Oversee the cathedral office, staff coordination, volunteer management, and facilities use.
• Assist with financial administration, including stewardship campaigns, budget tracking, and reporting.
• Ensure compliance with diocesan policies, safe-church training, and other canonical requirements.
• Supervise administrative staff and key program staff as assigned.
Pastoral Ministry
• Share in the regular preaching, teaching, and administration of the sacraments (including Sunday services, midweek Eucharists, and occasional offices as assigned).
• Provide pastoral care to parishioners through visitation (hospital, homebound, nursing facilities), counseling, prayer, and spiritual direction.
• Oversee or assist with key pastoral ministries, including but not limited to: new member incorporation, marriage preparation, baptismal preparation, and funeral ministry.
• Develop and lead adult formation opportunities (Bible studies, catechesis classes, discipleship groups).
• Work with Cathedral staff on the development of St. Anselm’s Parish Academy.
• Participate in the cathedral’s outreach and mission initiatives in the Charles Town community and beyond.
Qualifications
• Ordained priest in the Anglican Church in North America (or eligible for transfer of canonical residence into the Diocese of All Saints).
• Demonstrated gifts and experience in both pastoral ministry and parish ministry.
• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills; ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively.
• Proficiency with church management software Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, and basic financial oversight.
• A team player with a servant’s heart, able to work collaboratively with clergy, staff, and lay leaders.
• Commitment to the theology, worship, and mission of the Diocese of All Saints. Compensation
